This unique encaustic mixed media artwork entitled "Wetlands" was created by local Kirkland artist Joy Hagen. Encaustic paintings harden with age and become less susceptible to fingerprints and scratches.  Joy adds resin to the melted bees wax which adds to the durability and ups the melting point to over 150 degrees. The wax can still soften if left in extreme heat such as a hot car or a non-insulated window in direct sunlight.  Should this happen, wait for the wax to cool and handle with care at the edges or from the back.  Avoid touching the painted surfaces.  Enjoy!
