Our speaker, Kelty Pierce, is a former Seattle Children’s Hospital patient who has become a lifelong supporter and advocate. Kelty was diagnosed with bilateral congenital hip dysplasia at birth and underwent her first surgery at six weeks old. She continued to be treated in orthopedics as she had over ten more hip surgeries. At 17, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. It was then she began to seek out mental health care and to build relationships with the care team that continued until she aged out of the hospital. Kelty’s experiences as a patient, a recipient of financial help, and advocacy for accessible and affordable health care for all give her a unique story to share. She currently works as a corporate event director, is a board member with The Daffodil Festival and Cavalcade of Authors West, and is a proud University of Washington graduate and former student body President. Kelty is a Seattle Children’s success story that showcases the impact this amazing facility can have on a patient’s future.
